Boosting Performance

Giving your body the proper nutrients while exercising is crucial. I enjoy many aspects of exercise but when I am exercising, I want to make sure I am doing everything possible nutritionally to enhance my athletic performance and get the best results possible. The results that I have personally had with some of the recommendations below have been mind blowing. I also have a ton of patients that swear by these products. I had struggled in the past in regards to finding supplements off the shelf that I know are safe and healthy for my system. I am going to take that worry out of your mind for you!

Multivitamin/Multimineral– It is crucial to have all of the nutrients necessary in your diet to build muscle and burn fat. It has been hypothesized that when the body builds one pound of muscle, it take about 400 miles of new vasculature to support that healthy muscle. This takes a lot of nutrients!!

Preworkout– Dynamic Performance Drink. You are going to hear me talk about this product a lot because this is one of the main nutrients that has radically changed my athletic performance. This was an area that I really struggled in. I had heard and read about the importance of taking a high quality pre-workout in order to build lean muscle mass and burn more fat. However, I got stuck in the isles of the local supplement shop not knowing what is healthy, what isn’t, and what exactly I was putting into my body. It wasn’t until I discovered the dynamic performance drink that I felt comfortable putting a pre-workout into my system. This pre-workout gives me a ton of energy to crush my workouts.

Magnesium– Magnesium is a cofactor in making ATP, which is what the body uses for energy. Engaging in intensive exercise decreases tissue magnesium levels. Magnesium is actually lost in our sweat! Some studies have shown that magnesium actually increases aerobic performance, increases strength, and decrease exercise-induced muscle injury. Magnesium is also extremely beneficial in helping muscle tension. If you have one of those pesky knots in your back, stock up on some magnesium!

Glutamine–Glutamine is one of my all time favorite nutrients. It works wonders on decreasing gut inflammation and actually helps to build lean muscle tissue. It is a must in my smoothie each morning. Glutamine has also shown to increase immune function in athletes who undergo intense, prolonged exercise. Glutamine has been shown to actually assist the body in burning fat for fuel instead of breaking down muscle tissue for energy.

L-Arginine and L-Ornithine–Arginine has shown to increase the release of human growth hormone from the pituitary gland. When taken with ornithine, it is said to increase the production of creatine and creatine phosphate to help build muscle.

Whey Protein– drinking a fast absorbing protein right after a workout can help to stop the breakdown (catabolic) of muscle and provide the protein necessary to build strong muscle. Finding a high quality protein that can be absorbed quickly by the body can be difficult. I also have a lot of sensitivities to some of the ingredients in typical protein powders and never allow artificial sweeteners in my body. Here is the protein that I recommend. The best part… it tastes super good. I highly recommend the chocolate. I mix 1-1.5scoops with water in a blender bottle and drink it immediately following a lift.
