Cholesterol

Niacin– supplementation of 1.5-3g of niacin has been found to produce significant decreases in serum total cholesterol, LDL-C, and triglycerides, and increases HDL. In a study of 969 patients, over the course of 10 months they saw an average reduced cholesterol by 19.1%, LDL-C by 24%, and triglycerides by 32.5%, and increased HDL-C by 5.7%.

Recommendation: 500mg of Niacin twice daily. Warning: with niacin you may get what is known as a niacin flush. This is normal and actually healthy for the body. You will get very warm (similar to a hot flash) that will last about 20 minutes. If that occurs, just lower the dosage of Niacin.

Fish Oil– fish oil has been reported to lower triglyceride levels and has a number of other cardioprotective effects. Fish oil is really just an incredible all around nutrient. It decreases inflammation, assists in blood lipid levels, and increases the health of joints.

Red Yeast Rice– Red yeast rice is a fermented rice produced by growing red yeast on white rice. It has been used in China for over 1,000 years. In clinical trials, administration of red yeast rice significantly reduced serum total and LDL-C leves. The effects were similar to those of commonly used statin drugs. Red yeast rice has also been shown to reduce C-reactive protein levels.

Recommendation: Take 1 capsule before each meal.
