Do you feel like you are stuck in a rut? I know that I have certainly been there before. I want to give you a few quick tips on increasing your energy so that it lasts through the whole day. Waking up feeling refreshed, having better mental clarity, and getting rid of the mid afternoon sleepies.

Eat a breakfast with lots of fat

I know I still drool over a bowl of cinnamon toast crunch in the morning. Or a blueberry bagel with strawberry cream cheese. For some reason, we crave carbs in the morning. This is the exact opposite of the way we need to be starting our days. If we start our day with carbs it does two major things. One, is that it doesn’t keep us full for very long. The body uses  carbohydrates for fast fuel. If we were out chasing a buffalo all day, we would want more of those carbs. The majority of us are simply chasing a mouse around our desk for hours on end. We end up getting hungry well before lunch time and end up snacking. The second thing that eating carbs does in the morning is it spikes our blood sugar. You may get an initial boost of energy that maybe lasts until lunch time. Your morning seems to fly by. However, after lunch you are dragging. You can barely keep your eyes open and your mental clarity is as foggy as a morning in Maine. Your blood sugar has pummeled and it takes your body a few hours to normalize before you get your get your second wind later in the day. So, what do I do for breakfast? I drink a smoothie. My smoothies are a little different to say the least.

 

Dr. Mitch’s Smoothie Recipe

1/2 cup organic frozen strawberries

4 raw organic raw eggs (I can’t recommend eggs due to salmonella concerns. I have been eating them every morning for 10+ years and haven’t been sick once)

2 tsp fish oil (add fish oil)

1 scoop glutamine powder (amazing at decreasing gut inflammation and building lean muscle mass!)

2 tsp MCT Oil (add in)

1/2 cup organic coconut milk (rich in fat)

1 scoop Dynamic Greens (I love strawberry kiwi!)
