We have all read about how dangerous it can be to have our bodies in an acidic state. A life high in stress, diet high in sugar, and alcohol intake are just a few of the common culprits that make our system more acidic. I am going to show you a quick and easy way to test the acidity of your body. The Lemon Juice Challenge!

 

Lemon Juice Saliva pH Challenge

 

This test is a dynamic measurement of your body’s alkaline mineral reserves, which are one of the systems that your body uses to deal with acid and alkaline imbalances. We are looking to see if your body has the reserves necessary to respond to an acid challenge. This test allows us to see how stress and sympathetic dominance impact mineral reserves in your body. Increasing levels of stress can cause loss of these alkaline mineral reserves.

 

Instructions

  1. This test should be done first thing in the morning BEFORE you have had anything by mouth.
  2. You will be given a small packet containing pH strips and a color guide for reading strips.
  3. Prepare your lemon juice drink by mixing 1 Tbsp. of water and 1 Tbsp of lemon juice.
  4. To take a saliva pH reading: Make a pool of saliva in your mouth and dip half of one strip in the pool of saliva. Remove and measure the color immediately. Do not hold the pH strip in the saliva for too long and do not wait to read the test strip.
  5. Record the first reading. This is your baseline.
  6. Next, put the lemon juice mix in your mouth, swish around for 2 seconds and swallow. Swallow 3-4 more times quickly. Immediately recheck your saliva pH. This is the lemon point reading.
  7. Check your saliva pH every 1 minute for the next 5 minutes and record your reading on the graph below.
  8. If you are schedule for a follow up appointment- do this test the morning of your appointment.

Your pH should be in alignment with the blue line above.  What we are testing is how quickly is your body able to buffer the acidity of the lemon. If you body has a decreased rate of re-alkalizing or doesn’t at all… you need to alkalize your system and quickly!! What helps with alkalizing your body? Dynamic Fruits and Greens. All of those veggies are major alkalizers to our system. A scoop a day will very quickly alkalize your system and you will notice the difference.
