Vitamin C Flush

If you have ever seen the movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” they constantly use windex on non-windex related items from psoriasis to poison ivy. Even though I don’t recommend that, I do recommend using vitamin C in place of windex. Vitamin C is absolutely incredible!! It is extremely anti-viral, is an anti-oxidant, and even a natural anti-histamine. It is often beneficial to know where your “threshold” for oral vitamin C is. In order to find your threshold, you get to do a very exciting Vitamin C flush. By the way… vitamin C is great for constipation! Here are my instructions for the vitamin C flush. Remember to drink plenty of fluids.


This flush is safe to perform and is very useful in establishing a healthy gut flora, assisting detoxification of the liver, boosting the immune system, relieving bloating and constipation, and combating the negative effects of stress. Vitamin C is a very powerful antioxidant that can get you feeling better faster. Research has shown that high doses of Vitamin C for the common cold decreased the symptoms and length by 50%!


One purpose of the flush is to determine what your maintenance level of the Vitamin C should be. You will find that this level can change depending on your overall health status. Dr. Banke will recommend you use Ultra Potent C powder to perform the flush. It is a powder formula that will not negatively change the pH of your body. Each ½ tsp is equivalent to 2,000 mg (2g) of Vitamin C.


You will take 2 grams (1/2tsp) every 15 minutes until you get watery stool. Don’t stop before you get watery stools as this is your threshold for Vitamin C and this level must be reached. Once this level is reached, your maintenance dose will be ¾ of the amount of your threshold dose. For example, if you get watery stools at 20g, your maintenance dose would be 15g.


Below, you will find a little guide to help you keep track of your doses, simply circle the next consecutive number each time you take 2 g. Once you have the watery stool, take the last number you have circled and multiply by 2 and then multiply by .75 to get your maintenance dose. The flush should occur within a couple of hours.
